Difference between web1.0, web2.0, web3.0

The internet has come a long way since its inception in the early 90s. We can divide the evolution of the internet into three different phases which are Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. In this article, we are going to discuss the key differences between these three phases of the internet and how they have impacted the way we interact with the web.

Web 1.0 - The static web

The first phase of the internet was Web 1.0, also known as the 'static web'. It was primarily a one-way communication channel where users only consume information from the web pages. The websites in Web 1.0 were static and could not be updated in real-time, all the information or content on the webpages was created by web developers and users could only consume information present to them.

Web 1.0 was basically text based version and multimedia content such as images, and videos were rarely used. With few opportunities for user interaction with websites, the internet was basically used for research and information purposes. The main focus of the internet was on providing information rather than user experience.


Web 2.0 - The interactive Web

Web 2.0 marked a significant shift in the evolution of the internet. The term "Web 2.0" was coined by Tim O'Reilly in 2004 to describe the new era of interactive websites that allowed users to interact with the web and contribute to it. Web 2.0 introduced new tools and technologies that enabled users to interact with content on the web and with each other. We can participate in online communities by using social media platforms like Twitter, and Facebook, which allows users to connect with each other and share content over the internet.

The rise of user-generated content on the platforms like YouTube, Wikipedia, and flicker allowed users to create publish and share their content with the world. In Web 2.0 we are shifted towards interactive websites from static pages which provide a more personalized user experience, where users could shape the content they consumed.

Web 3.0 - The Semantic Web

Web 3.0 is the next phase of the internet evolution, and this is the future of the internet. Web 3.0 aims to create an intelligent web where humans and machines can interact with more understanding. This will enable computers to understand and process data more accurately and provide more personalized search results. Web 3.0 will be more secure and efficient in every aspect, this will use blockchain technology will play a significant role in Web 3.0 to secure ways to do online transactions without any intermediate.
